G&S of Little Horwood have been the perfect clients. 

They came to us having had a superb new Areddo3 Italian kitchen designed by Joe and installed via Marabese Ceramics of Wolverton/Bedford/Letchworth (Oodles works closely with Marabese and have designed and fitted five Arredo3 kitchens in both our own speculative new build properties and in interior remodelling projects for clients. We also love their floor and wall tiles and their extensive bathroom and shower range!) In this case we were inspired by the kitchen and carried the colour theme and contemporary style out into the garden. When we first visited the property to carry out the site survey and prepare design concepts we found the expansive bi fold doors from the new kitchen just opened out onto a huge, slippery. old deck that was well passed it’s sell by date. It then stepped down onto a featureless, undulating area of worn and boggy grass bordered to one side by overgrown shrubs in a raised sleeper bed in front of a deteriorating fence and to the right and the rear by an open brook. Our brief was to create a stylish, low maintenance garden to complement the new kitchen. We sourced 20mm thick rectified grey porcelain tiles, direct from Spain, via Marabese and combined these with a darker grey profiled step edging and wall coping and installed a silver grey granite sett detail around the perimeter as a mowing strip. Two symmetrical block built raised planters frame the new lowered dining patio which - with the bifolds fully open - now extend the entertaining capacity from the interior to the exterior - perfect for G’s big birthday party when the garden was opened up to family and friends. If that wasn’t enough additional seating space - via two “softer seating” patio areas - was created to provide for morning coffee and for drinks in the evening sun and to serve as focal points to the bottom right and left of the garden. Even the deep copings on the long raised formal plant bed in front of the fence were set at a comfortable sitting height. Positive comments were received for the colour scheme and in particular the pleasing visual impact achieved by using the grey mosaic silicone render system - with the added touch of glittery silver bling that catches the light - and the horizontal slat screen cladding in western red cedar that transformed the boundary fence. As for the purple acer in the corner....well that had always been there but we all thought it was dead when we first arrived...it was hidden behind overgrowth and starved of natural light. It now has pride of place on a stage of its own. It is thriving and will soon be “cross lit” from left, right and below with the addition of LED  lighting remotely controlled by just telling Alexa ...”garden lights on”!

We took G’s treasured, vintage, but top quality Hayter rotary mower in for a full service and a new blade (www.advancedturfmachinery.co.uk) and delivered it back to him. It now is “reborn” with purpose as it has a lush lawn to mow - it cuts the new trident turf beautifully
